Resurrection: Ch.13

Last Time:

He did not need an answer; his eyes grew wide, appalled, as he realized what the girls had done. "You didn't," he mumbled under his breath.

Pride and Greed stepped inside the room along with the girls. "But they did. We are living proof." Pride declared.

"And be prepared to die!" Greed transmuted a long, fine carved spear with a sharp edge.

Envy clenched his fists, grinning. "It looks like I've been betrayed." He eyed Betrayal and Revenge.  "Now I have no choice but to kill you all."

Betrayal decided to act first. She raised her hands up above her head as if she was holding a gigantic ball. Particles in the surrounding air rapidly merged together into a whirlwind above her hands, forming a loosely shaped, unsteady sphere. The wind particles cycled in the shape of a sphere, amazingly not hitting each other. It seemed so natural and balanced that it makes one wonder how it could possibly exist.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the room Envy was busily stomping the ground beneath him, causing the brick-like pieces of the ground to shoot straight up into the air. He punched one of the bricks as it hovered for a moment in front of him, but the force he exerted was too strong, and instead his fist shot right through it. The brick broke into many small pieces, which crumbled back to the ground. Envy's face displayed an expression of complete dismay. "Damn! I overdid it…"

By now Betrayal had already sent her dense whirlwind ball flying towards him, but Envy dodged it by moving to the right just before it could hit him smack in the center of his chest, missing him by only an inch. He stuck out his tongue and mocked, "Hah missed me!"

It was Revenge's turn to take action. She pointed her finger at Betrayal's wind sphere that had just missed Envy, and sped up the particles in the air around it, taking control of the ball by turning it back around.

Envy spun around just in time to glance the concentrated sphere of wind heading back in his direction, and before he could do anything to defend himself, the whirlwind ball struck right into the center of his stomach, rapidly spinning in place for a second before sending him flying back through the air. Envy landed on his back with a deafening sound, coughing up blood. Upon closer examination, the air pressure of the ball had cut straight through his stomach, leaving behind a large, clean gaping hole.

"Yes!" Betrayal and Revenge high-fived. However, it was too early to celebrate. Envy's stomach had healed within moments and he was already getting up. He dusted his shoulders off. "Have you girls forgotten?" He grinned. "I won't die easily." He then bent down and picked up one of the remaining bricks he had previously stomped out of the ground and tossed it upwards. When the brick was at eye level, he punched it without actually touching the object. The force of the air pressure from his punch sent the brick flying horizontally and straight towards Betrayal.

Betrayal quickly punched a blow in front of her, exerting an immense force that countered the brick. However, the brick's force overrided the air pressure Betrayal created and it continued its path towards her. Betrayal panicked; there was no time to create another force to counteract the brick's.

Suddenly, a huge transparent shield appeared between Betrayal and the flying object. The block hit full a collision with the shield, and was destroyed by the impact. The shield then disappeared.

Betrayal's face remained in shock. "What happened?" She turned towards the boys, who were standing a few yards to her left on the same side of the room, opposite of Envy.

Greed put his hands up in the air. "Don't look at me. I have no idea."

Pride and Revenge merely shrugged in amazement. Pride theorized, "I think it was you, Betrayal. You might have unconsciously protected yourself."

Betrayal blinked and gave a shy smile.

Envy seized this chance to attack Betrayal again, but Greed moved quickly. He already had his hands against the wall next to him and was creating a thick, long cylinder with a sharp point that somewhat resembled a large pencil. He then grabbed and threw it through the air at Envy. Along the way, the weapon crashed through another one of Envy's bricks, and just as it was mid-way between him and Envy, Pride had combined the oxygen in the air with the ground, creating fire. The fire lit up the cylinder-like weapon of Greed's, and the flaming weapon continued its course towards Envy.

Envy jumped upwards and flipped to dodge the fiery shuttle; however, his jump wasn't high enough. As it passed under him, the shuttle's flames brushed right under his clothes, lighting them on fire. "Ahh!!" Envy screamed. He ran down the side of a wall, and then started rolling on the ground back and forth. After a minute of desperate struggle, he finally stopped moving.

The fiery cylinder kept on flying at high speed, eventually hitting the wall on the other side of the dome-shaped building they were contained in. The powerful impact against the wall shook the room, and pretty soon it all started to fall apart entirely. Flames from Greed's weapon quickly dispersed along the floor in neat rows.

"We have to get out of here!" Revenge shouted above the loud noise of the crumbling ceiling and large dancing flames.

Envy shot up, back from the dead. "Y-you!" He scowled and pointed at the other homunculi.

"We don't have time to escape. Everyone, gather closely around me!" Betrayal hurriedly clapped her hands together as if she were praying. She turned towards Revenge. "Water, I need water!"  

Revenge nodded, quickly shedding tears to create rain, and instantly it began to rain. The rain started to put out the dancing flames.

After Pride and Greed gathered in a huddle with the girls, Betrayal used alchemy to transmute the rainwater into a huge, dome-shaped shield that protected all four of them. Pride placed his hand on an edge of the clear blue shield, transmuting it to hold it steady.

Envy tried to dodge the falling stones of the ceiling, but he wasn't fast enough to escape. Along the way he was hit many times, and in total he died about three times before the entire room had collapsed.

After the dust had cleared, Envy could be seen left lying among piles of stones. His body was deformed and many of his bones were broken, but soon it all began to heal and he returned back to life once again.

Envy pushed the mounds of rock off of him and got up. He coughed several times before turning around to face Betrayal, Revenge, Pride, and Greed. "Bastards…" He wiped the blood off his chin.

Betrayal and Pride finally released the bubble-like shield. All four of them were completely unharmed from the collapse; the shield had blocked all outside forces.

The rain continued to fall at a steady pace. Betrayal and Pride looked up into the sky and extended their arms out in front of them. They both began to form an enormous bubble from the rainwater.

From the other side of the field, Envy charged towards them while transmuting himself into a huge dagger, aiming for Revenge.

"Look out, Revenge!" Greed pushed Revenge out of the way just as Envy was about to drill into her body, and with Revenge out of the way, Envy instead forcefully sent Greed into the ground.  

"Greed!" Revenge clasped her hands over her mouth. Tears started to flow down her cheeks.

"It's ready!" Pride and Betrayal finished creating the bubble, and was then able to turn their attention towards the others.

Pride rushed over to Greed as soon as he saw him lying on the ground, motionless. "Greed, wake up!" He furiously shook him.

Revenge's eyes glared at Envy. They glowed in deep fiery hatred. Envy remained unprovoked. She transmuted the bubble Pride and Betrayal created into several bolts of lightning and grabbed and threw one of them with all her might. The lightning bolt struck Envy in a split second, killing him once.

Immediately following her attack, Revenge went to Greed's side and took his hand in hers. Slowly, Greed began to stir. He coughed a little and opened his eyes, forming a sweet smile at Revenge's crying face. "Don't worry Revenge, I'm ok. After all, I'm also a homunculus."

Revenge wiped away her remaining tears as Pride helped Greed up.

"We can do this." Pride confidently gave Greed a thumbs up. He then turned to face Envy, who was already up on his feet. A split second later, Envy's powerful punch landed dead on Pride's right cheek. The impact turned Pride in a full spin before he hit the ground on his side.

From behind, Greed kicked Envy's back. Envy immediately turned around to retaliate, but Greed swiftly dodged Envy's high swinging knee.

After a few more blows between Greed and Envy, the rain slowly came to a stop. The girls, along with Pride and Greed, were now battling Envy all at once. Pride transmuted a ball of fire and aimed for Envy. Envy turned his hand into a mirror, reflecting the fire back at Pride. Betrayal then created water and sent it to put out the flaming ball before it hit Pride.

Pride let out a deep breath. "Thanks, Betrayal."

Betrayal winked back at him.

Immediately following Pride's attack, Greed sent a sharp dagger hurling towards Envy. Envy dodged it with an air bound somersault, landing right behind Greed. Greed swiftly threw his dagger back, slicing right through Envy's heart.

Envy jerked from the sudden attack and his whole body fell, hitting the ground with a thud.

"He only has one more life!" Betrayal was keeping count since the beginning of the battle. She hoped she hadn't miscalculated because she was growing weary of a battle, even if it was 4 against 1. She half-closed her fists and held them out in front of her. Water materialized between her fists, forming into the shape of a long rope. Betrayal closed her fists, grabbing a hold of the rubbery water rope.

Just as Envy came back to life again, Pride punched him in the weak part of his stomach. "This is for making our lives miserable!" Pride angrily spat.

Envy's arm reflexes immediately held onto his stomach to press down the pain. He walked back a few steps. "Wah? ...I thought I was doing you all a favor by getting rid of those damn humans." Envy grinned and turned his leg in a full swing at Pride's waist. He missed him by only a few inches as Pride flipped backwards. From Envy's side, Greed threw double daggers, but Envy's flexibility swiftly dodged them all.

While grabbing on to one end of the water rope, Betrayal tossed it at Envy. Envy flipped into the air, skillfully dodging it. Betrayal then ran towards him from another direction. She flipped into the air and aimed the water whip again. Envy made a move to dodge the attack, but this time Betrayal controlled the watery whip so it would stretch out a few yards around him. It was unavoidable; the rope traveled full circle before it finally tightened around him.

Betrayal firmly gripped onto the water rope. She landed gracefully on her feet while Envy landed smack on his side, his arms bound from the tight rubber-like rope.

Envy struggled and cursed under his breath. His strength wasn't enough to break free of Betrayal's powerful water artillery. "Damn you, Betrayal!" He glared at her with vengeful eyes.

"There's no way out." Betrayal looked down upon Envy with serious determination. She seemed so powerful even Envy began to sense a little fear come out from deep within.

Betrayal nodded towards Revenge. "It's time to end this."
