My mom, sister, and I were on a road trip, and we were lost. My mom drove past a large shop selling a single item with a display of a large variety of chip bags for 48 cents each. Then we entered an unknown city with some weird name (I can't remember). She stopped the car, and we got out. The city seemed to be inside a very large dome that the size couldn't be estimated from ground level. We walked along the sidewalk and saw people with fur, claws, cat-like ears, horns, and other non-human features pass by. It was sort of a mix between humans and beasts, like in those fantasies such as Beauty and the Beast and mythology such as the Minotaur. I saw a few werewolves and elves. We walked past them and entered the building that stood out above all the rest. I read a sign near the entrance that said, "Administering blood tests for everyone to test if you are not human." My mom signed me up.

I thought it was crazy and told her, "We are normal humans and this is unnecessary."

She, of course, didn't even bother to listen to me. Very soon, a tall, blonde woman that resembled an elf came and took me into the hallway for the test.

"We never knew such a place like this could ever exist, and we only got here because we got lost," I told her. She smiled.

"This city was hidden for centuries, and served as a refuge for people who weren't normal humans from human society."

"But I'm human. I have no idea why I'm doing this."

She acted like it was no big deal. "That's OK. After the test, just forget about it."

I sat down and suddenly a strong rush of fear ran through my bones. I stared at her as she prepared and took out a unique-looking camera. It was big and was some kind of new model. Before she started I asked, "Will it hurt?" I looked down.

"I suppose...but only 3 times as worse as a regular blood draw." She winked.

My fear grew and I became nervous. She raised and aimed the camera at my face. I heard a click followed by a blinding red flash. I felt sort of numb and odd. The first two times didn't hurt. Then, she did it several more times and the pain increased each time. My neck felt sore. It wasn't as bad as I thought.

Afterwords, I went to the hotel room my mom checked in for all of us. I found my sister sitting on a large bookshelf on the 4th row up, squeezed in. I wonder how she did that. I tried it myself, but I was too clumsy and big. I looked around the small room and found two bunk beds and several pieces of origami lying on the floor. Then I woke up to the loud beeping of my alarm. My neck hurt.
